Kennel Assistant
Major Objective - Provide care for
Guide Dogs in training at the training facility.
Responsibilities
1. Assist in unloading dogs from training van upon its return to the
training facility.
2. Take dogs out to relieve themselves.
3. Groom dogs - Brush, comb, and check nails, check ears, may need to
bathe occasionally.
4. Feed dogs.
5. Clean and maintain kennel area.
6. Clean and maintain dog run areas.
7. Other kennel duties as needed.
Qualifications
1. Must love dogs.
2. Must be patient and dependable.
3. Treat dog fairly. Handle puppies and guide dogs in training as unique
individuals with specific characteristics strengths and weaknesses.
4. Be willing to get your hands dirty.
5. Have transportation.
Training
1. Attend volunteer orientation.
2. Complete media release.
3. Complete 3-day training class given by the training staff.
Time and Place
2:00pm till 5:00pm at the residential training facility.
Commitment
Minimum of once a week.
Supervision
Direct supervision by the Training Staff and indirect supervision
Volunteer Coordinator.
